Hope’s Anchor

What’s your soul anchored to? Do you have a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen? Real hope and meaning gives your soul something to attach itself to. The biblical hope is a firm, secure, unwavering, steadfast HOPE. I tell my boys that I have high hopes for them because I believe they will live good lives. As parents, we are suppose to give them something to anchor up to, that will give them security.

Have we slowly grown accustomed to anchoring ourselves with a cynical, doubtful and skeptical “hope” as we’re taken away from our cornerstone by drifting with these currents? A hopeless, unworkable mindset is going to keep us in the wrong places. If the path we’ve anchored up to is leading us to sin, trying to hold us to the feeling of unworthiness, and creating a death trap for our souls…that’s an empty hope…that’s meaninglessness…that’s what our souls are suppose to detach from. We’ll have to find our way back.

Pick hope’s anchor up! Drop it into Hebrews 6:19-20. It can sink to the depths and still grab on. One version says it this way: “This hope is like a firm and steady anchor for our souls. In fact, hope reaches behind the curtain and into the most holy place.” It goes on to say that this hope we have is where Jesus our forerunner has entered on our behalf.” Zechariah 9:12 declares: “Return to your stronghold, O prisoners of hope; even today I declare that I will restore to you double.” We have “a hope that doesn’t disappoint!” Hope anchors our souls to good living.

Souls were not meant to go unanchored! “An anchor is used to connect a vessel to the bed of a body of water to prevent the craft from drifting due to wind or current.” “A sea anchor is a drogue, not in contact with the seabed. It’s used to control a drifting vessel, or to limit the speed of a sailing yacht running bare poles in a storm.” If something is anchored in someone or to something, it has strong links with it.” Hope’s anchor ties us to The Rock. “From the ends of the earth, I cry to you for help when my heart is overwhelmed. Lead me to the towering rock of safety.” Hope’s anchor is holding you in place and filling you with Godly HOPE!
