Life and Peace- Part 2

“…the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.” Romans 8:2-11

Recently, I saw a post about a former Navy Seal who is recovering from a horrific car accident in which he was a passenger. His wife is steadily documenting any little/big progress with the help and encouragement of her mother. The former Navy Seal use to tell his wife of his two wishes, one being that he would like them to be able to post pictures of themselves together and that there would be more scripture references. She is now doing both and their story has gone viral. This couple is enduring pain by letting life and peace come through the Spirit. Jesus is familiar, also, with pain. For us to get our eternal lives and our lives of freedom here for even one day, Jesus had to be crushed. Isaiah 53:3-6 “…a man of suffering, and familiar with pain…he was despised, and we held him in low esteem. Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering…but he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”

Are you at a place where you’re pierced for someone else’s rebellion? Crushed for someone else’s sin? Are you beaten down for someone else to be whole? Whipped so someone else can be healed? Maybe right now, you can identify more with Christ than ever before. Maybe you’re facing some very hard things right now and quite willing to be put in a hard place for some people you love. Just remember Jesus did it for the entire world. There wasn’t one person He wasn’t willing to die for, not one person He thought of that deterred Him from suffering the crucifixion. I know some pretty tough men and women who could physically handle a whole lot but the sins of the entire world, only Jesus, the Lamb of God, could endure. He was and is the Savior. There is no other. Christ allowed the Spirit to truly govern Him. He was despised without despising. Jesus is our Good News all day long.
