Faith

Buddies

What two things work together and make us a great friend to God?

Here’s a hint: “Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” Okay, yes, it is faith and action! They are big buddies. In Abraham’s case, they equaled something. James 2:21-25 “Was not Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did…Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness (not craziness), and he was called God’s friend.

Action packed faith can look wild and crazy. It can easily be considered pure ridiculous by people around us. I can just hear the tones and voices of anyone finding out about Abraham offering his son on an altar! “Crazy old man. Trying to kill his son. He wanted that kid so bad and now look at him! He’s nutso…messed up in the head.” But faith and action, just like Abraham and God, didn’t do things separately.

Finish out your faith by acting out what you hear God saying. Action takes it’s friend, faith, to a whole other level. A level of completion. (Abraham didn’t have to keep his son on the altar. He offered his son on the altar. God provided the sacrifice!) Hurry toward the goal of fulfillment. Do a wild thing. Couple your faith with action. Let them buddy up. There is nothing in comparison to being God’s friend!
