Life and Peace- Part 1

“…the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.” Romans 8:2-11

A lot of times we have what we need in the physical realm so we disable ourselves spiritually. We stop trying. We give up on recovery, choosing not to accept God’s forgiveness or any further intricate plans He has for our lives. Verses 7-11 go on to say “The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law nor can it do so. Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God. You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you…he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.” The realm is a kingdom, a field or domain of activity, interest, or thought. It’s a region, sphere, or world within which anything occurs, prevails, or dominates. A realm is an area that is ruled by something. If we want life and peace, it’s all going to depend on what realm we pour our interest into. If we’re governed by the Spirit, we will understand the way things work and that we are not above God but rather in accordance with life and peace. These verses pretty much mean that if we insist on being in control of our lives, many things will be out of control in our lives! We cannot please Him if we’re setting the rules. We often think that if we have control, we will also have peace but there will actually be a lack of peace. Let’s take the time to ask His Spirit to govern us from now on. Since God raised Jesus from death, He can raise us from sickness, pain, trouble, loneliness, stress, heartache, and trauma. Could it be that we are too able, too capable in our flesh, to allow the Spirit to lead?
